Sew Super-Useful Fabric Baskets

Fabric baskets have got to be the smartest solution to storage issues for little folks. For example, you can jam them full of toys in the evening and not worry about little guys smooshing their faces on hard plastic or wood as they systematically remove every single toy in the morning. You can stash clothes that are just too big close to hand, you can use them to hold dipes or wash clothes or tubby toys or toiletries or... well you get the picture, useful is what I'm saying.
They can be a little spendy to buy, and finding exactly the right size and colour can be an issue, so how awesome is this Soft Basket Tutorial by Joanna Armour of StardustShoes for Michael Miller fabrics?
Very awesome indeed is the answer, there are good, clear instructions with pictures; to get started making your own baskets you'll need:

  • 3 contrasting fabrics that you love. Or one that you really really love. How much you'll need will depend on the size you're making your baskets (I'll be making mine slightly bigger than specified in the tutorial -14" bases instead of 11"- and I'm reckoning on about a meter and a half in one colour)
  • Quilted interfacing
  • 1" wide cotton twill tape for the handles

This picture is of the baskets in grown-up mode, but the examples in the PDF tutorial are in the cutest kid fabrics.
