Handmade Father's Day - Baby Paw Prints

I LOVE Father's Day. Love it. One of the totally awesome things about having a baby is getting to watch your sweetie be a parent. Father's Day gives you the opportunity to say "Hey! Good job with the most important thing you'll ever do!" and maybe coo like a lovestruck pigeon.

Now, while my Sweetie deserves to be showered in high-end electronics our budget is more toaster than plasma screen, so Teddy and I had to come up with something personal, meaningful and (let's be frank) cheap.

Last year we made these:

created at: 2009-06-17

Yup, they're Paw Prints!

I used:

  • two small, ready-to-use canvases
  • some finger paint mixed to the colours I liked.

The method is pretty much what you'd imagine, paint the canvases, paint the pookie feet, then squish pookie feet on to canvas.

Which doesn't even begin to explain how messy an operation it is with a 4 month old. Tips for less mess include.

  • Pop the pookie in a bouncy chair that you've covered with a towel.
  • Better yet, have someone (who isn't the daddy) hold the pookie while you paint then squish their feets.
  • Have paper towel and a bowl of warm soapy water ready to wash off the paws IMMEDIATELY (green feet are something of a give away)

A Voila! A present to make Daddies and Grampies go "Awwwww".

My mother-in-law used to do something very similar with her kitty--she had him 'sign' the family Christmas cards this way. :)
