3 Natural Cold Remedies For Babies

It's horrible when babies get colds. With the snuffles and the goo and the disrupted sleep. It can turn even relatively sane folks into hypochondriac loons too,

Me: 'Do you think he has Bubonic Plague?'

My sweetie, patiently, for the 3rd time:'No, I think he has a cold'

Here are 3 natural ways to deal with the miserableness of a congested baby, they definitely shouldn't replace a trip to the doctor if you feel your baby needs it, but they can help.

Steam, hanging out with your baby in a steamy bathroom for about 15 minutes can help loosen the icky goo. A humidifier in your pookie's room can also help, and is actually kind of a must in places like Toronto, where forced air and freezing temps make for desert-like dryness.

Elevation, some babies have an easier time breathing in an upright sort of position. You can either put a pillow UNDER the crib mattress (NEVER in the crib with baby) to keep your babies head elevated or try something like Baby Bed Blocks, which you rest under the legs of the crib like this:

Herbs, Lavender and Eucalyptus are pretty effective, (you obviously don't put undiluted essential oils anywhere near your pookie) but a few drops in the steamy bathroom tub, or even on a VERY carefully placed oil diffuser can help. We put a few drops on a pillow that sits on our rocker, close to the Bear's bed. Vick's baby rub also has both herbs.

If really is no fun dealing with a congested pookie so don't be afraid to ask for help. This website here is a pretty good source for information about other types of all-natural remedies.
