Chariot Carrier

Winters can get long in Minnesota, so it's always important to plan some sort of getaway, preferably somewhere warm. It can also be nice to spend a holiday enjoying everything Minnesota has to offer in the winter, i.e. snow, snow, and more snow. Getting out and enjoying a Minnesota winter doesn't have to be painful, in fact, in can be spectacular, as long as you have the right gear for the weather.

This past weekend my family and I drove five hours north to Lake Burntside, Minnesota for a cross-country skiing vacation. With the temps. hovering around 10 degrees fareinheigt, we were a bit concerned about keeping Lena warm, and we wouldn't have been able to enjoy our trip without the Chariot Ski Carrier. We were lucky enough to borrow this key piece of equipment from a friend and it proved to be absolutely necessary to our vacation. Without it I think we would have been stuck inside as the winds and cold were pretty strong. But the Chariot kept Lena surprisingly warm, warm enough for her to even take several of her naps in it while we skied. We were able to spend quite a bit of time outside, and Lena seemed happy and comfortable in her ride.

Lena in the Chariot

My husband skiing with Lena in the Chariot

The Chariot is available at REI for a whopping $535.00, and in order to ski you must purchase the ski-kit for an extra $250.00. Other kits are available to convert the original chariot chassis to a bike trailer, stroller, or jogger. The chariot chassis includes a child compartment, rear wheels, 2-in-1 weather cover, padded handlebar, rear storage compartment and parking brake. This equipment is spendy, but if you enjoy the outdoors the chariot carrier offers many different options and eliminates the need to purchase several dedicated child carriers.

The Chariot line used to be sold in the US under the Trek brand, so if you see an older on of these with the Trek logo; it's the same thing (we have one, which is why I know). The Chariot attachments (bike couplings, etc.) will work fine with the Trek trailer.
