These days, being green means more than having a love affair with Miss Piggy. As we learn more about our impact on the health and vitality of our planet, it's important to consider healthy choices that will benefit the world and our lives. This becomes especially true when thinking about raising a child. Happily, there are a number of absolutely wonderful baby products that are good for baby and mother earth. Here are a few we love:
1. Seventh Generation Diapers Chlorine Free Diapers: We are hoping to go the cloth route when it comes to diapering our babe, but we're going to need at least a disposible diaper or two. Seventh Generation diapers are made from non-toxic ingredients that are good for the earth and its littlest inhabitants. A pack of 120 diapers sells for $42.99 at Amazon.
2. Sustainable Bamboo Jungle Mobile: Not only is this 100% babmboo mobile by Petit Collage beautiful, it's also earth-friendly. This laser-cut mobile features a modern-looking monkey, giraffe, elephant and lion. It sells for $76 at Branch.
3. California Baby Products: California Baby products are a very gentle line of products made from lots of organic and sustainably-grown ingredients. The company designs its products with babies and children in mind, so they are safe and gentle for wee ones. We ordered the Super Sensitive line; we love the fact that it's fragrance free (why mask that sweet baby smell?) and extremely mild. Right now, some products in the Super Sensitive line are 20% off at CaliforniaBaby.com! The shampoo and bodywash sells for $9.19.

4. PlanToys Wooden Toys: This company features several good-ole-fashioned wooden toys that are made to play nice with the environment. To minimize their impact, the toys are made from recycled rubberwood that is never chemically treated. They also feature an array of developmentally appropriate gadgets for little ones. I love the "Roller with Sound" (age: birth +) which sells for $9, and the "WoodPecker Walker" (age: 1+) which sells for $72. A variety of PlanToys wooden gems are available at BabyEarth.com.

5. Boppy Organic Slipcover: A Boppy is an infant supprt pillow that's designed to help with nursing. It is meant to grow with your baby, and can be used to support them during "tummy time" and prop them up as they learn to sit up. Ours came with a frightening hot pink, fuzzy cover that we quickly removed. Instead, we are using this "Sweet Pea" slipcover that's made from organically grown, breathable cotton. The sweet pea design is silk screened with vegetable dye. It sells for $20.99 at Amazon.
6. Kate Quinn Organics Clothing: This line of infant and children's clothing features simple and stylish designs made from the softest 100% organic cotton. The company strives to use materials that are kind to the earth and hip for the kiddos. Visit Kate Quinn Organics to find delightful apparel like this yoked blouse, which sells for $38.

7. Chan Pie Gnon Teethers: These lovely little teethers are Sophie la Giraffe's BFF. Made from natural rubber and colored with food quality paints, this French mushroom (champignon) is perfect for teething babies. Chan Pie Gnon is available in 3 colors and sells for $13.50 at Naturally Trendy.
