Round and Round and Round: Modern Mobiles

Mobiles are said to expand a baby's visual attention by encouraging her eyes to follow slow moving, stimulating objects. Lovely! But, finding the perfect mobile for our future peanut's nursery has been a bit like looking for the perfect pair of jeans: painful. I'm looking for a mobile that fits the room, isn't too flashy, and will keep the baby entertained in the wee hours of the morning when I'm not up to entertaining.

After much searching, I present to you a collection of some of my favorites:

1. Cat, Dog and Bird Animobile from Bla Bla. Not a traditional mobile, but I adore these chubby little pets. Each animal is $42 from Bla Bla.

2. Sheep Mobile from Pottery Barn Kids. I love the simplicity of this black and white mobile. I'm sure it will help our little one learn to count sheep early (thereby encouraging good sleep habits). And, there's even a black sheep! Available at Pottery Barn Kids for the sale price of $24.99! (reg. price $39).

3. Wallter Butterfly Mobile from Design Public. This beautiful design cascades from the ceiling. Available at Design Public for $70.

4. The Photo Mobile by Kikkerland from Wee Gallery Mobiles. Make your own mobile using this stainless steel mobile kit. The mobile allows you to display five images and uses two clips per image (to face the cards towards the baby, use four clips per card). Wee Gallery sells some bold and beautiful black and white flashcards in a variety of different themes for $12.95 a set. This mobile also offers a great DIY option: create your own images for your babe to gaze upon and suspend them from th clips. Kikkerland Mobile sells for $12 at Wee Gallery Mobiles.

5. Cocalo Couture Aidan Mobile from Baby Earth. This may be the perfect mobile. I love the circular canopy with the vintage toys in the shades of pink and blue. It's so cute that I can even overlook the fact that it plays the predictable, "Rock a Bye Baby". Available at Baby Earth for $58.99.
